Hartz UltraGuard Plus Flea and Tick Home Spray protects your household by killing fleas, flea eggs, ticks, roaches, silverfish, earwigs, ants and other insects on contact. i have two outside pens for my dog to use. i spray this product on her rugs and anywhere else in both pens to keep the ants and fleas away. i have not seen fleas around so far but the ants are always trying to be a pest. it keeps the ants away. the product is wrapped tightly in strong plastic to prevent any problems during shipping. my shipment arrived fine. i am real happy with this product and it is safe for me to use around my dog's pens.

There isn't enough vocabulary in the language to encompass all of the bad things I could say about this product - ; my life changed for the worse, ; is totally different today, because I used it.
My first suggestion to people is, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT if you have an AUTOIMMUNE CONDITION, of any kind (eg. allergies, asthma, fibromyalgia, arthritis, susceptible immune system, etc. If you are AT ALL SENSITIVE TO CHEMICALS, do yourself a favor - ; give this stuff a miss. I wish I had. I saw it on a local store shelf, ; because it was mass marketed to the general public, I assumed it was safe to use. And it can't be as bad as calling an exterminator, right...? I manage CFIDS - ; after I used this stuff in my apartment - my CFIDS related conditions went haywire for a very long time.
Back in Oct. 2007, I developed a flea problem in my apartment, ; I bought this product to try to eliminate it. I sprayed 1 ; 1/2 bottles across 540sq.ft. of carpet, the amount recommended per sq.ft on the bottle. The fleas died down for 2 days, ; then went right back to their prior numbers, ; then they increased like wild. They weren't phased at all.
The label says not to get this product on your skin, but it's hard to avoid that when you spray it over a large area. The fluid in my bottle started running down the front ; sides, ; over my hands, ; from the carpet it also got onto the soles of my feet. You'll never totally avoid it though, because even after it finally dries - you are going to be exposed to the chemicals when you walk, sit, or lay on the carpet, or handle things setting on it. The bottle said it's contents are considered "a carcinogen in the state of California", ; I ignored it, thinking they worry about too much hype in CA - ; I wish I had taken heed, ; just left this on the shelf.
In the several weeks after I sprayed "Hartz UltraGuard Plus Flea ; Tick Home Spray" - I had literally dozens of flat warts ; plantar warts spring up all over my hands ; feet. Some of them transferred to my face ; legs. These did not go away - ; I still have them today. I also experienced persistent respiratory problems, a racing heartbeat that never died down, trembling, ; my complexion took on a yellow cast for months. I freaked out. My Dr. was no help. I called the spray's manufacturer to find out why this was happening to me.
When I talked to Hartz' Customer Service, their Representatives refused to take any responsibility for any human side effects their product could cause, whatsoever. Hartz did not stand behind this product in any way shape or form, including its ability to successfully eliminate fleas. After listening to 3 hours of denial ; scripted rote answers from everyone I talked to - one clerk finally weakened, when I promised not to sue Hartz ; told her I did not want free coupons - ; she gave me an explanation. She said the pesticides in this spray are permethrin based, ; permethrins work by making the target increasingly more sensitive to it's effects over time, ; it puts their entire system into overdrive, until it eventually kills it. She said that's how it kills the insects. She said if you turn out to be sensitive to it, it can increasingly sensitize your own system, ; make you sick too. I told her this stuff had put my own system into over drive, ; I had not been right since - ; it didn't even kill the fleas... This might explain why it didn't bother me right away when I used it, but the effects got worse ; intensified over the next several hours ; days. And because it remained in my environment, they never went away, until I left it.
But that isn't the worst of it. My apartment had a central air system similar to the metal box style heating ; cooling units you find under windows in motels. I opened the window above it, ; set this unit not to heat or cool but to "fan", in order to try to help the carpet dry ; air the place out - because the spray dried slowly ; had a strong stink to it. It was one of the worst mistakes I have ever made.
I left the apartment ; let my air system run on "fan" about 10 hours. It sucked up the heavy vapors from this spray up into it's works - ; I never got it out of it again. After that - whenever I ran the heater or the AC - a horrendously rancid, corrosive smell came out of the air system that made me short of breath, ; my heart rate take off like a train, every single time I ran it there ever after. I have no idea why it would not air out of the air system, but it never went away, no matter how long I tried to air the system out. I was devastated ; panicked. The building management where I lived was not good, ; they would do nothing about it. The effects of running the heater were unbearable, so I set up a Delonghi sealed oil space heater, ; just left the air system off for the Winter, ; some symptoms from the spray died down. The man who serviced the heaters hosed the insides out in May, ; I don't know why - but it did nothing. When I had to run A/C that Summer - I had the same health problems, ; the stench was terrible. I eventually tracked down the manufacturer of the heater ; called their CS - ; they told me that if some chemical in that spray blew up into the coils ; mechanical works, ; the vapors had a corrosive effect on the metal parts - it might never be able to be aired or cleaned out. Eventually, I gave up on trying to get the problem fixed, ; moved out 1 year later ; finally got away from this Nightmare.
As a side note, ; this may be purely coincidental...14 months after I used Hartz' spray, ; after 12 months of living on that carpet - my cat developed a cancer in his chest area, ; it cost him his life. It's possible this would have happened anyways, but I have a feeling that living on the contents of this spray on his carpet, did his immune system no favors at all, ; it facilitated the cancer (also an autoimmune disease) getting a foothold on his system.
I will never again, ever...so long as I live ; breathe...use this product, or anything like it, in my home again. My story may not be your story - but from the Fall of 2007 to 2008, this stuff was my Kryptonite ; my Achilles Heel - ; I strongly encourage people to judiciously consider their health risks - before throwing the chemicals contained this type of product all over their home. Because you don't just walk on your carpet - you live on it - ; your air system will inhale the contents of it, as will you, ; your loved ones. Buyer... Beware.
From my own experience with "Hartz UltraGuard Plus Flea ; Tick Home Spray"...I would give this product -5 Stars were it possible... I will never forget the miserable role this product played in my life.
